ETCHING: A DURABLE WAY TO MAKE YOUR MARK

Etched nameplates are metal nameplates that have been chemically etched to create a permanent, durable, and eye-catching finish.

The etching process uses chemicals to remove a layer of metal from the surface of the nameplate, revealing the underlying metal. This creates a contrast between the etched areas and the un-etched areas, which gives the nameplate a unique and stylish appearance.
Etched nameplates can be made from a variety of metals, including brass, and stainless steel. The type of metal used will depend on the specific application and the desired look.

Etched nameplates can be customised with a variety of fonts, colours, and designs. This makes them a great option for branding products and industrial environments.

WHAT ARE ETCHED NAMEPLATES AND HOW ARE THEY MADE?

The selected metal sheet, often made from materials like brass, or stainless steel, is thoroughly cleaned to remove any impurities. A negative image of the design is screen printed to the metal surface.

The coated metal is oven baked, this exposure hardens the resist ink on to the surface of the metal.

The metal left exposed is then etched away using an acid or other chemical etchant. If colours are required in the etched area, the material is the sprayed with these colours and baked a second time to harden the paint.

Finally, the resist ink and spray paint are removed, and the nameplate is cleaned and finished, resulting in a durable and precise etched or etched and filled nameplate.

THE ADVANTAGES OF CHEMICAL ETCHING

Etched nameplates are metal nameplates that have been chemically etched to create a permanent, durable, and eye-catching finish.

The etching process uses chemicals to remove a layer of metal from the surface of the nameplate, revealing the underlying metal. This creates a contrast between the etched areas and the un-etched areas, which gives the nameplate a unique and stylish appearance.

Durability

Etched nameplates are created by chemically removing a layer of metal from the surface of the nameplate, which means that the design is permanent. This is in contrast to other types of nameplates, such as metal stamping or laser engraving, which can be easily damaged or worn.

Versatility

Etched nameplates can be used for a variety of applications, including door or wall plaques, memorial plaques or table/furniture identification. They can also be made from a variety of metals, including brass, and stainless steel. This gives you a lot of flexibility when choosing the right nameplate for your needs.

Customisation

Etched nameplates can be customised with a variety of fonts, colours, and designs. This makes them a great way to brand your products or services, or to simply add a touch of style to your home or office.

Low Maintenance

Etched nameplates require very little maintenance. You can simply wipe them down with a damp cloth to keep them clean. This makes them a great option for environments where nameplates are likely to get dirty.

STAINLESS STEEL OR BRASS OPTIONS

STAINLESS STEEL

Stainless steel is an alloy of iron with chromium and often nickel. It is called "stainless" because it is highly resistant to corrosion and rust, even in the presence of water and other corrosive substances.

The chromium in stainless steel forms a protective layer on the surface of the metal that prevents corrosion. The amount of chromium in stainless steel determines its corrosion resistance. Stainless steel with 12% or more chromium is considered to be stainless.

BRASS

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. It is a yellow-gold coloured metal that is known for its malleability, ductility, and conductivity. Brass is also relatively inexpensive, making it a popular choice for a variety of applications.

The proportions of copper and zinc in brass can vary, depending on the desired properties of the alloy. For example, brass with a higher zinc content is more malleable and ductile, while brass with a higher copper content is more conductive.

MATERIALS

Material choice is a critical step in the design process. The material used for a product will have a significant impact on its performance, cost, and sustainability. There are many factors to consider when choosing a material, including the application, the environment, the budget, and the desired aesthetic.

HAVE YOU CONSIDERED ANODISED NAMEPLATES

Anodised nameplates are made of aluminum that has been anodised, which is a process that creates a hard, protective oxide layer on the surface of the metal. This layer makes the nameplate more resistant to scratching, corrosion, and fading, making it a durable and long-lasting option.
